Washed In The Blood?

Well Good Friday is here and many will be marking this day of the crucifixion with worship and reflection, much like I am doing now. In a few days Easter and the day of resurrection will be upon us, but for now we focus on the death of Christ. I have read some things lately, and have also heard it preached, and also have listened to many a Christian lyric, that talk about being "washed in the blood". It may just be me, but it seems that lately we have become "Good Friday" people as opposed to "Resurrection" people. What I simply mean is we live in the New Life here and now. The purpose of the cross and the grave was not only about cleansing us of our sin. Certainly it is sin that leads to the cross. But that is the place where many Christians stop.

But we are not a crucifixion people. We are a resurrection people. The crucifixion which cannot be avoided and must be observed, is not the final answer. God's final answer is not about blood shed for sin only. The final answer is resurrection and new life, and a spirit of grace and truth that abides with us always. Even when we still turn away, God's love made real in the resurrection of Christ is always steadfast and true. Let us never forget even on this day, that while there is death, in Christ we have new life.
