Advent Meditation: Love

We have come to the last Sunday in our Advent journey. Later this week we will welcome the newborn Christ once again. Once again we will eat our fill, we will unwrap and open our presents, and we will gather with family or friends or both, to share in the celebration.

But before we get to all of that, there is one thing that we must remember before we open one single present, and before we take one more bite, or before we head out to see relatives again, Love. We do all of this in the name of love because; in some small way it reflects God’s ultimate love that God gave us Jesus Christ. It is this gift of love and grace that enables us to celebrate. It is this gift of love and grace that reminds us of who our lives belong to. It is this gift of love and grace that reminds us of what God is willing to give to us so that we may live new life in God. God is willing to give everything, and that everything takes the form of unconditional love made fully known to us in the Christ child that night.

So as we start wrapping the presents, gather our food, and begin to make our travel plans, let’s remember that it is the love that we share in the newborn Christ that empowers us to act in this way. But starting on Saturday let us continue to share that love which God calls us to show the world as followers of Jesus. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only son…”
